Reflections on Art

I have been intrigued with Surrealism from the moment I first saw a piece of surreal art. To me Surrealism is less about a Freudian dream state and more about the strange world we live in.

To live successfully in this strange world we need to be entirely familiar with it. We become so accustomed to it that we loose all sense of its strangeness. But if you look hard enough and avoid the blindness of familiarity, you can see the strangeness laid bare. To me, the weirdness of surreal art is just a metaphor for the weirdness of our real world.

I try to explain what I mean in my talk on "Surrealism, Reality and Dali" and I have also included some of my oils in "My Dabbling" in the menu on the right.
