SunTzu's Art of War (Translated by Lionel Giles, M.A. 1910)

This treatise is perhaps the oldest of its kind still in existence. It has been enormously influential in the strategic thinking of soldiers, statesmen and those who seek to influence the course of events in their sphere of interest.

It is provided here as an insight into one of the philosophical and ideological bases of the software quality movement -- in particular, the notion of continuous improvement, and the importance of being able to measure something before being able to control it. This latter is highly relevant to software qaulity in that 'metric' is a fundamental requirement of high capability maturity software processes.
