Objective of this briefing

The objective of this briefing is to identify and define the interest of Australian partners in the creation of the VITE Consortium for the development and demonstration of capabilities for an agile supply chain integration suitable for the small and medium sized enterprise.

There is an initiative to form an international consortium under the umbrella of IMS. IMS Consortia are reviewed by independent assessors before endorsement. IMS endorsement guarantees safeguards regarding intellectual property rights and allows the use, as a pattern, previously tried IMS consortium co-operation agreements which makes the organisation of the VITE consortium swifter. In certain regions, such as Europe, IMS projects have increased chance of obtaining additional funding from government agencies (European Union).

The VITE consortium organisers have previous experience in the successfully completed IMS Consortium project 'Globeman 21' (Enterprise Integration for Global manufacturing >40 companies from Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia and US), and are active partners in a new IMS consortium on virtual enterprise management ('Globemen'), with >20 companies and a selected list of R&D groups.

Endorsements:

IMS Australia (Intelligent Manufacturing Systems) provided seed funding for the organisation of the VITE consortium to Griffith University, Enterprise Integration Group. Dr Peter Bernus of the EI group will hold the briefings.
