QualIT2006 Doctoral Consortium

The one-day Doctoral Consortium at QualIT2006 provides a forum for doctoral students who are part-way through their studies to present their research to a panel of researchers and supervisors experienced in qualitative research in information technology. The consortium also provides the opportunity for doctoral students to benefit from interaction with other students who are engaged in postgraduate research.

Submissions are invited from current doctoral students (PhD, DBA, etc.) who would benefit from detailed discussions of their doctoral research by a panel of established information technology researchers, practitioners, and peers. Doctoral students applying to participate in the consortium must have already selected their research topic, and be currently enrolled in a doctoral program. Students in the formative stages of their research are encouraged to apply.

Submission

The paper outlining the doctoral student?s research should be in the form of an Extended Abstract or Short Paper summarizing the dissertation/thesis proposal. The Extended Abstract or Short paper should adhere to the following guidelines, and should otherwise be formatted according to the QualIT2006 submission template (Word .doc file).

Structure

The paper should be structured using the following sections:

  1. the research topic and any specific research questions arising within the scope of the project
  2. a justification for why and to whom the research is important
  3. a brief annotated bibliography/literature review
  4. a brief outline/summary of the theoretical basis for the work and
  5. a description of the research design within qualitative frameworks.

Paper Length

Students early in their program should write an Extended Abstract/Paper of a minimum of 1000 words (excluding references) but not more than 1500 words. Advanced students should also include a description of their findings to date and are invited to write a short research in progress paper of up to 3500 words (excluding references).

Important

Please note that the submission should not contain information or materials that are proprietary at the publication time. Students are encouraged to bring the issues of concern to the doctoral consortium for discussion and helpful feedback. Interested students should submit a 1000-word extended abstract describing their research. Submissions must use the QualIT paper submission template and adhere to the paper submission guidelines (above). Extended abstracts are to be submitted using the electronic submission facility.

Peer Review

Accepted submissions will be double-blind peer-reviewed by national and/or international experts. Abstracts will be published in the proceedings. The proceedings will have an ISBN number and will be available to non-attendees.

Registration for day only: $150
Registration with full conference attendance: $380 (Student registration includes Consortium, 2 days at conference, and conference dinner.)

The registration fee for the Doctoral Consortium includes full day attendance, morning and afternoon tea, and lunch. A copy of the proceedings will be supplied to all participants.
