About Brisbane

Brisbane is Australia's third-largest city and the state capital of Queensland. Brisbane is a lively, cosmopolitan city and is just 45 minutes from Gold Coast beaches and pristine rainforests in the hinterland. With its near-perfect climate year-round, Brisbane comes as a pleasant surprise to most visitors. The city is surrounded by some of the state's major tourist destinations, and there are plenty of options for daytrips.

The venue for the conference is the Southbank Campus (Queensland College of Art), Griffith University, which is conveniently located across the river from the Brisbane CBD.

There is a large diversity of options available for transport to downtown Brisbane as well as for accommodation arrangements near the Conference venue. This page provides some information on how to get around and what accommodation options available, however, conference delegates are asked to make their own arrangements in this regard.

Transport

From Brisbane Airport

Delegates arriving at Brisbane International or Domestic Airport have the options of Airtrain, coach, hire vehicle or taxi service for travel to Brisbane City. International visitors may fly directly to Brisbane International Airport, or to Sydney International Airport with a transfer to the Domestic terminal for flights to Brisbane.

On arrival in Brisbane, we would recommend the Airtrain service which connects Brisbane Domestic and International Airports with Brisbane City (and the Gold Coast if you want to do some sightseeing before or after the Conference). The Airtrain also stops at South Bank (across the river from Brisbane City), where the conference venue is located.

The Airtrain service takes 20 minutes to get from Brisbane Airport to Brisbane City. Information about the Airtrain service is available at the Airtrain Site.

Getting to the Conference Venue

The Conference venue is at the Queensland College of Art, 226 Grey Street, South Bank (www.gu.edu.au/about/campuses.html and click on Queensland College of Art to view photos and site details).

The College of Art is a brisk 20 minute (or thereabouts) walk from the Brisbane CBD; ideally crossing the river on the Goodwill Bridge (footbridge) or the Victoria Bridge (go past the Performing Arts Centre and follow the Grand Arbour right through to the eastern end of South Bank). The South Bank Railway Station is directly across Grey Street, behind the College of Art. The closest parking to the Conference venue is at Grey Street, South Bank - the precincts are heavily signposted on available parking.

Information on public transport, including timetables, fares and a journey planner is available from the Queensland Government's Transinfo site at http://www.transinfo.qld.gov.au/.

A choice of accommodation options are available close to the Conference venue.
