29th Australasian Computer Science Conference-2006

ACCEPTED PAPERS

University of Tasmania,

Hobart, TAS, Australia

January 16 - 19, 2006

(final call for papers)

The Australasian Computer Science Conference series is an annual forum for exploring research, development and novel applications in computer science. The 29th edition will be hosted by the University of Tasmania and its School of Computing as part of the Australasian Computer Science Week which includes:

The 29th Australasian Computer Science Conference (ACSC2006) will be held at Wrest Point Casino in Hobart from Sunday 15th January (a small reception in the evening) to Thursday 19th of January 2006.

We welcome papers describing original contributions in all fields of Computer Science research. Each paper will be judged on its originality, significance, correctness and clarity. Its contribution should be clearly explained in both general and technical terms, and authors should make every effort to ensure that its technical content is understandable by a broad audience without demerit to impact and significance. Submission of a paper should be regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one author will attend the conference to present the work.

All areas of Computer Science research are appropriate for ACSC2006. Areas include (but are not limited to):

Invited speaker

Professor Chris Johnson's (University of Utah) research interests are in the area of scientific computing. Particular interests include inverse and imaging problems, adaptive methods, problem solving environments, numerical analysis, biomedical computing, and scientific visualization. Professor Johnson was awarded a Young Investigator's (FIRST) Award from the NIH in 1992, the NSF National Young Investigator (NYI) Award in 1994, and the NSF Presidential Faculty Fellow (PFF) award in 1995. In 1996 he received a DOE Computational Science Award and in 1997 recevied the Par Excellence Award from the University of Utah Alumni Association and the Presidential Teaching Scholar Award. In 1999, Professor Johnson was Awarded the Governor's Medal for Science and Technology from Governor Michael Leavitt. In 2003 he received the Distinguished Professor Award from the University of Utah. In 2004 he was elected a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He directs the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute.

Submissions and Proceedings

Papers up to 10 pages in length conforming to the formatting instructions for the series Conferences in Research and Practice in Information Technology are invited.   Formatting instructions can be found at http://crpit.com/Authors.html . Full papers will be peer -refereed (reviewed) by at least 3 referees. For submission through the WEB use this link.

By submitting to the conference authors accept that they are aware of the Guidelines on Research Practice in Computer Science by the Computer Research and Education Association (CORE - previously CSA) and available at http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/core/conduct.html. In particular, authors are encouraged to review the points on authorship.

The proceedings of the conference will be published through the Australian Computer Society under the title Computer Science 2006 (CRPIT).  At least one author must register for the conference to ensure the publication of the contribution in the proceedings. The proceedings are included in the ACM digital library.

Professor Sidney Morris, Editor in Chief of the Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology, would like to publish suitable versions of the best, or some of the best papers presented at the Australasian Computer Science Conference (ACS2006). The program committee will forward nominations with the view to Prof. Morris asking the authors to revise them to a version suitable for JRPIT.

Student Paper Awards

Based on the Guidelines on Research Practice in Computer Science by the Computer Research and Education Association (CORE - previously CSA), the conference awards a best student paper award to a student author(s)/coauthor(s) provided that

(1) all other non-student co-authors confirm to the program chair(s) that the nominated author has had a substantial participation into the paper and

(2)   the student academic supervisor confirms to the program chair that the contribution reflected in the paper is the result of a major component from progress for a research higher degree.
